When we heard about Bam
Where were you when you heard Bam Adebayo was busting toward 83 points? Because youse weren't watching the Miami Heat play the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night.
At least one reader was – hi Coup, thanks for the continued support – but even among an audience overwhelmingly made up of professional NBA media and deep NBA fans, few of us stuck to Tuesday's Wizards/Heat contest while clicking through League Pass. I clicked out of clicking entirely, eschewing spoilers for the singular Spurs/Celtics experience. Saw a little of Alex Sarr splashing three-pointers, then turned off the scores and social media to see C's and Spurs. Stuck to Spurs and C's.
The first I heard of Bam was when Bam, like Ray Parker Jr., was nearly finished busting. Heard it from Mike Tirico and Reggie Miller on NBC, calling C's and Spurs and alerting me to an event which already happened: I was about 20 minutes behind while staring holes through an empty Immaculate Grid I mean working on a column for my beloved subscribers.
(Forgot that Dominican-born Felipe Lopez never played for the Spurs, only drafted by them. Otherwise, immaculate.)
So I missed the social media reaction to Bam Adebayo's 83 points and thank heavens for that. Only saw the live look-in, 20 minutes after it was live. Enough time to reflect back on the fact that I watched nearly every minute of the NBA's previous 80-point game as it happened twenty years ago.
Tivo'ing back and forth that Sunday evening between a superior SuperSonics/Suns contest, appreciating the disconnect two decades later, SWMO (Secure With Missing Out, pronounced slow-mo).
