What can we do with Wemby?

It may dull, with age or cynicism or accomplishment, but what we are watching here is a superiorly alert athlete. Victor Wembanyama is tall and skilled and can jump high, but his ability to lend danger and intrigue to every remaining second on the shot clock is what draws the eye.

There was a fear when Shaq entered the league, calls for change, random columns expecting 12-foot rims or courts which ran 54-feet instead of 47 along the baseline. Sometimes they'd mention Shaq, sometimes they wouldn't, the expectation was that the 21st Century would be full of Shaqs and that we must protect the guards before Y2K bytes.

Well, they needn't. The guards just got better at shooting the attempt worth a whole extra point.

And we leave Victor alone. When Mikan and Wilt showed up they changed the rules, now Wemby's in uniform and all we want to do is get out of the way of his game, basketball, the sport he appears to have more interest in than the nine other fellas on the court with him.
