Cheers, Jeers
We know how this works.
TV Guide introduced this a few decades ago to comment on easily-applauded or easily-dismissed trends in the world of television. They chose "Cheers or Jeers" because "Tears for Fears" was taken, the band was really big at the time.
CHEERS
Grady. Grady rules.
JEERS
Zero local broadcasts of the first round. For those of us who like switching between options on League Pass during the postseason. Or for, uh, the locals.
Can't blame the NBA for not knowing what local broadcast consolidation may look like toward the middle of this new national television contract, but the black-tie novelty of listening to local broadcasters work playoff games is much-missed. The aural equivalent of American flag bunting draping the sidewalls.
JEERS
The 'America 250' reminder advertised at press row by the NBA during games. Even the logo is a tacky embarrassment.
CHEERS
That one 'Dazed and Confused' clip is going to be the most-watched film of the summer.
CHEERS
Brian Scalabrine on national telecasts, he's great. Like his local work, Scal talks about actual plays and defensive formats while being funny and ruthless. One of the best at it, already.
JEERS
Brian Scalabrine trying to nail his take in any game but a Boston Celtics game. It isn't his fault but Joe Mazzulla's: Scal doesn't make his valid points quickly enough for contests featuring more than 95 possessions. Scal isn't fast enough.
He can handle hearing this, Brian's listened to these criticisms before.
Scalabrine doesn't finish his explanation before the next play is over only because he is used to those extra-long Celtic possessions. Long, 22-second structures which are sizable space for a great anecdote typically starting with Jordan Walsh's rookie footwork in 2023 and usually ending in 2009 with Kevin Garnett profanely telling everyone to shut up, but in a way which would include a traffic cone. The traffic cone is there because Doc Rivers brought it in for inspiration. Glen Davis took it personally, either Ray Allen or Allan Ray started laughing.
Scal will soon be up to playoff speed, he's been there before:
